The Importance of Using Twitter

As a communication student I feel that it is extremely important to try out every new social media to at least have some basic knowledge of how it works. Because of this I was shocked when I learned how many fellow communication students either didn't have a twitter or had no idea how to use it.

I will admit that starting out on twitter can be a little intimidating if you don't know what's going on. But that is why we ask questions. I believe strongly in the importance of simply asking for help if you don't understand what's going on.

While virtually everyone is on Facebook it isn't as useful as a marketing tool for businesses. People use Facebook to conduct their personal life and would rather see who's in a relationship than what their favorite place to shop is up too.

On the other hand Twitter has eliminated all that is personal, making it a much more direct and effective platform for reaching consumers. Short blurbs of information make it ideal to connect quickly and get people to listen through the clutter.

Not everyone has had a positive experience with twitter though. Here are some examples of the harms of social networking to your image if used wrong. Check it out.

With a little common sense hopefully most of us will know better than to commit as they put so elequently these "twitter faux pas."

So if you are communication student or anyone looking to get a job in basically anything but labor work you should strongly consider trying twitter out before you get left behind.
